The World Health Organization (WHO) will provide training to Bangladeshi nurses on `Critical Nursing Care, Emergency and Trauma Nursing'.

A total of 16 nurses will be given the training this year, WHO Representative Dr. Duangvadee Sungkhobol in Bangladesh said. She disclosed this when she called on Health and Family Welfare Advisor of Bangladesh retired Maj. Gen. Dr. ASM Matiur Rahman at his office in the capital, Dhaka on Monday.

The WHO will also arrange training for Bangladeshis on physiotherapy and health technology management, Duangvadee said.

Advisor Matiur Rahman said the government is giving emphasis on improving the standard of education and training of technical manpower like nurses, physiotherapists, paramedics and lab technicians up to international level.

"The education and training of technical manpower need to be improved up to the international level as their number is inadequate against the number of doctors, hospital beds and patients in the country," Rahman said.

Duangvadee assured the advisor cooperation so that Bangladesh's quality medicines can get the WHO certification. She also informed him that a technical team of WHO would visit Bangladesh this month in this regard.

They also discussed the necessary preparations and assistance to observe the 16th National Immunization Day in October and December 2007, an official press statement says in Dhaka on Monday.
