Madurai, India (AHN)--A reliable low-cost therapy to effectively control phosphate accumulation in the body of dialysis patients has been proven successful in clinical trials.

Vitamin B3 or niacin, a vitamin tablet available for less than a dime, has been found helpful in reducing phosphatic accumulation.

Dr. K.Sampath Kumar, head of the Department of Nephrology, Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC), said on Tuesday.

He said, this cost-effective treatment would reduce the need for expensive drugs, Lanthanum Carbonate and Sevelamer, which is used in the West.
