Mexican Researchers To Develop Colon Medicine From Tequila Plant

Researchers in Mexico say compounds from the fruit used to make tequila are an effective way to treat diseases of the colon that range from Irritable Bowel Syndrome to cancer.

According to a release in the American Chemical Society, chemists at the University of Guadalajara have found that compounds in blue agave can be used to prepare drugs for colon treatment. Researchers believe that the new drug would be more beneficial than current methods in treating ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, cancer and Crohn's disease

Aspirin In Low To Moderate Doses Help Lower Death Rate In Women

A new study has found that women who take aspirin in low to moderate doses may lower the risk of death from heart disease. A 24-year study of nearly 80,000 women suggests that aspirin is especially beneficial for those who are older and prone to cardiac disease.

The study, which appears in Archives of Internal Medicine, said the benefits were associated with taking low or moderate doses of aspirin. High doses (two or more standard 325-milligram) do not give any more benefits. However many experts have also advised women should not take aspirin as a health preventive without talking to their doctor

ADA Releases New Guidelines

The American Heart Association found that only 10 percent of American women are free from the risk of heart disease or stroke. As a result, new guidelines have been printed in the journal Circulation.

These guidelines include a daily regimen of aspirin, more exercise, and a less fatty diet. The guidelines also say that taking vitamins C and E, beta carotene and folic acid will not prevent heart disease

North Dakota Kids Suffer From Mysterious Illness

Doctors are perplexed over the cause of illness of two kids from North Dakota, who have been sick since the time they were born. The kids, 6-year-old Ariana Kaseman and her 2-year-old brother, Lucas, are now restricted to wheelchairs after unending bouts of fever, pain and other neurological problems.

Their parents, Teresa and Kevin Kaseman, have approached doctors in Fargo and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., to find a possible cause of kid's illness but all their hard-work is in vain as the doctors have not been able to detect any particular cause for their mysterious illness
