During the first day of the trial of a national lawsuit in San Francisco on Tuesday, two Democratic senators called for the chief mental health official of the VA to resign, saying he tried to cover up the rising number of veteran suicides, CBS News reported | | Researchers have developed a new drug that can protect healthy cells from anti-cancer radiation. The drug, CBLB502, was shown to protect gastrointestinal cells and bone marrow in mice and monkeys from radiation without reducing the treatment's effectiveness. The new research could not only improve the effectiveness of radiation therapy in cancer but also help prevent radiation sickness after exposure to a nuclear accident or attack | | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working with the drug company Merck to investigate a possible link between Merck's asthma and allergy drug Singulair and suicide risk associated with it. Meanwhile, "patients should not stop taking Singulair before talking to their doctor," the FDA said in a statement, adding that doctors should monitor patients for suicidal behavior and mood changes.
