The proposal is a response to the state Health Department's discovery that Harvey Finkelstein, a doctor from Dix Hills, used many times over needles in multiuse vials at his Plainview clinic in 2005. But it would not apply to private doctors and hospitals which are under the supervision of the state Health Department.
The bill is slated for discussion Thursday at the Suffolk legislature's Health and Human Services Committee. Losquadro admits some medications are packed only in multivial containers.
Finkelstein's wrong medical practices led Queens City Councilman Eric Gioia to file a bill that would require public hospitals and clinics to provide patients more information about medical malpractice. There is a link in New York state's website that lists disciplinary action taken against erring physicians.
Gioia said, "New Yorkers need to educate themselves and check out their doctors to make sure they're okay."
