Report: Women Get Drunk Faster Than Men

Simple observations in places like public bars or restaurants can suggest that women in general feel the effects of alcohol faster than men. But while most people argue that it is all about the difference of sizes between the two sexes, studies suggest it has more to do with body composition.

According to a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, it found that in women levels of gastric alcohol dehydrogenase, a compound that breaks down alcohol, are on average nearly half what they are in men. It also found that the amount of alcohol metabolized after its first passage through a woman's liver and stomach is 23 percent of what it is in men

Progress Found In New Gene Therapy Research For Muscular Dystrophy

Researchers are showing excitement in the search for a cure for forms of Muscular Dystrophy with recent results in the health and extended life of mice with a form of congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD) via systemic gene therapy, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

"This work demonstrates that gene therapy should be considered an important strategy in the fight against muscular dystrophy and lends further support for planned human clinical trials," says Sharon Hesterlee, MDA's director of Research Development

Babies Still Healthy If Morning After Pill Fails

New research shows that babies conceived due to the failure of the "morning after" pill, levonorgestrel, are just as healthy as other babies.

The study involved 36 pregnant women who were exposed to levonorgestrel and 80 similar women who were not. A total of 25 deliveries took place in the exposed group and 69 occurred in the nonexposed group
