Researchers say they've found a link between smoking and cervical cancer. They say smoking along with the human papillomavirus, or HPV, may work together to increase the risk of the cancer.

The Swedish study found that women who were infected with HPV are six times more likely to develop cancer than women who don't have the virus.

But smokers were more than 14 times likely to develop cancer within nine years.

The study also found that women who continued to smoke while infected with HPV increased their chances of developing cancer. Researchers say it suggests that smoking may help the HPV virus grow.
