Harvard University researchers studied the lifestyles of 116,000 US nurses. They were asked what kind of dairy products they consume and if they were trying and failing to conceive.
They found that nearly 500 women said they were diagnosed with 'ovulatory failure' - infertility due to irregularity in the normal monthly cycle - after eating low-fat dairy.
Women who eat two or more servings of low-fat dairy were 85 percent more likely to have trouble conceiving, according to the study. However, some doctors said they do not believe there is a link.
Dr Richard Fleming, from the Glasgow Centre for Human Reproduction, said, "Women with ovulatory failure make up a relatively small proportion of cases of female infertility. I'm not convinced that there is any reason for women who are trying to conceive to alter their diet unless they are obese, and I would not advise any woman to do this."
