Furthermore, a study conducted at Washington University in St. Louis says a high-protein diet can actually increase your risk of developing cancer.
The study linked a long-term, low-protein, low-calorie diet with lower levels of substances that have been linked to an increased cancer risk; especially breast cancer, prostate cancer and types of colon cancer.
Dr. Luigi Fontana, from the University of Washington, says, "We know there is a link between nutrition and cancer."
"There are certain cancers that are linked with levels of IGF-1, which is an important growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of cells."
Dr. Fontana, who's also an investigator at Istituto Superiore di Sanita, in Rome, Italy, will debut the study in the December issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
