Girls aged 14 to 19 who are sexually active may have human papillomavirus (HPV), which is the leading cause of cervical cancer among women later in their lives. Other diseases are Chlamydia, trichomoniasis, and herpes simplex virus.
According to the study, most STDs are prevalent among black girls, followed by white and Mexican-American girls.
While the viruses can be treated with antibiotics and can be prevented with vaccines, the center advises that parents get their children educated about the dangers of STDs by talking to them and getting expert outside involvement.
