A new program launched by health officials in Los Angeles County is using email sent through websites to provide people with a way to tell casual sex partners they have a STD. The websites, which have been launched in Los Angeles and San Francisco, is a bid by health officials to reduce the spread of STD's by encouraging people to get tested. The site, www.inspotla.org, also gives people the option to be anonymous |

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has updated its 1996 guidelines for HIV screening, now recommending that all pregnant women be tested. The move is a preventive measure to ensure HIV-infected pregnant women can start HAART treatment and thereby reduce the risk of vertical transmission of infection to their infants. They can also be advised to avoid breastfeeding, which is known to increase the risk of transmission |
