| Falls are a major problem for older adults and researchers say there are simple steps that women over age 70 can take to make falls less likely. Researchers say that women who get more than seven or eight hours of sleep each night are less likely to fall than women who get five hours, or less, of sleep each night | | The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers to stop using certain 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets after two infants died from strangulation. The "close-sleeper/bedside sleeper" bassinets are made by Simplicity Inc. of Reading, PA. The agency's safety alert was prompted by the death of a 6-month-old Kansas girl who died from strangulation Aug. 21 after getting caught in the product's metal bars, the Washington Post said Friday | | Children who are exposed to pet dogs, cats or other furry friends at home can develop problem snoring when they grow up, a new study has revealed. Heavy snoring has been linked to early death, heart disease and stroke, not to mention the obvious problems of sleep deprivation for the snorer and their partner. Karl Franklin, the study's lead author and a physician at University Hospital here, analyzed sleep habits and other childhood hospitalizations of men and women aged 25 to 54 -- all residents of Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, and Estonia -- and got responses from 15,556 | | Teenagers who don't get enough good-quality sleep are at an increased risk for prehypertension or elevated blood pressure, researchers say. Study author Dr. Susan Redline, director of the University Hospitals Sleep Center at Case Western Reserve University here, said sleep duration of 6.5 hours or less was also associated with increased rates of prehypertension | | Like fuel, prices of drugs have been soaring from 100 percent even up to 1,000 percent, according to researchers at the University of Minnesota. What is alarming is the prices of medicine could escalate further and double again in the next four years, the researchers said.
