Severe Asthma Research Program (SARP) researchers found that severe asthma is more of "air obstruction" from the lungs that the person who has this disease can not breathe properly.
In most asthma cases, 90-95 percent of patients respond to treatments while the remaining 5-10 percent are those with severe asthma that cannot be controlled by medications. These group are more susceptible to more attacks which could be fatal.
Ronald Sorkness, a physiologist at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and the lead author of the study, said the SARP is formed to find out the underlying cause of severe asthma, to understand its pathophysiology and to improve its treatment.
