A new research reveals those who eat red or processed meat are potential victims of bowel cancer. But, chances of contracting the disease are less for those who prefer fish.

On the other hand, those who eat 80 grams of fish every other day reduce their risk by 30-percent.

The researchers studied more than 500,000 people over a period of five years.

Chief study investigator Sheila Bingham says, "People were suspecting that high levels of red and processed meat increase bowel cancer and this comprehensive study has established the relationship."

The results of the research are published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. However, research also indicates having red meat less than once a week while eating chicken and fish reduces the chance of developing the disease.
