Actress Sally Field says she is partnering with drug companies to raise awareness about osteoporosis.

Fields says, "Last year I was diagnosed with osteoporosis... I was over 50, Caucasian, thin, small-framed, and I have it in my genetic history. It was almost a slam-dunk."

HealthDay News reports that Field, 59, is working with F. Hoffmann-La Roche and GlaxoSmithKline on the "Rally with Sally For Bone Health" campaign. The companies co-market the osteoporosis drug, Boniva.

The campaign offers a website and a toll-free number to at-risk women, and asks them to sign a pledge to improve their bone health.

The pledge asks women to: take sufficient calcium and vitamin D; choose and maintain and osteoporosis drug regimen; exercise regularly; visit a doctor regularly, and cease smoking and excessive alcohol.

The two-time Oscar winner says she witnessed her "Grandma Gin" suffer from the disease. Field says, "She was all bent over from osteoporosis, so my doctor was watching me for it. And then last year my bone density took a steep dive."
