Insulin pumps used by teens to treat Type 1 diabetes have been linked to injuries and even deaths, a study by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found.

The FDA advised parents to keep a watch on their children's use of pumps, as many times the devices fail to function properly

Over 286,000 pounds of suspected tainted meat and poultry were recalled Monday by New York-based Gourmet Boutique after tests revealed the food could contain the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria causes ailment and even death, and could be transferred through common food items even if properly stored in cold facilities

Some 286,000 pounds of fresh and frozen meat products have been pulled out of the market over the weekend due to possible contamination with Listeria bacteria, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said.

A still undetermined amount of ground beef products has been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency from meatshops and stores across Canada due to possible E. Coli contamination.

The food safety board issued the alert on May 2nd , warning the public not to consume frozen hamburger patties as well as fresh ground beef products delivered in several Toronto stores between march 13 and 21 this year

Bottled water will no longer be sold in school cafeterias or vending machines and will not be served in school and board events in the Waterloo region of Toronto starting in 2009.

The Waterloo school board made the decision in a bid to promote the high standard of its tap water. However, schools would not prevent students from bringing bottled water to the campus, provided it was not purchased on school grounds
