But some ethnic groups are more prone to juvenile delinquent behavior, particularly Hispanics, the study said. The CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which covered public and private high school students every two years since 1991, indicated Hispanic youths have greater tendencies to take drugs, get drunk on school premises and attempt suicide.
Howell Wechsler, director of CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health, told the USA Today, "Today's Hispanics are doing much better, but they're still doing considerably worse than our black and white students today."
Wechsler added extra focus is being placed on Hispanic youths because of the rapid rise in their number and their failure to keep up with the improvement that young people from other ethnic groups have achieved.
Another study by Dr. Yasmin Hurd, a neuroscientist from New York, disclosed that in terms of drug addiction, white teenagers are at a higher risk than adolescent blacks, Hispanics or Asians.
