 Red wine Information - September 7, 2008
| A German study has found that people who ate just over 6 grams of dark chocolate daily for almost five months were successfully able to lower their high blood pressure readings, thus cutting down the risks of stroke. Dark chocolate seems to lower blood pressure but the amount of chocolate involves one square from a German chocolate bar called Ritter Sport, equal to about 1 1/2 Hershey's Kisses. Though the reductions in the readings of blood pressure with dark chocolate were small but it was still good enough to potentially reduce cardiovascular disease risks. The researchers tracked just 44 people aged 56 through 73 and the results were similar to other small studies of cocoa-containing foods, which contain flavanols - plant-based compounds credited with giving red wine its heart-healthy benefits | | A study suggests that people who consume alcohol after having surgery for obesity have less tolerance to it and get drunk after only one glass of red wine. The study, which was inspired by an episode on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," shows that not only do obesity-surgery patients become drunk more easily than the average person - they also take longer to sober up | | For all those people who are eager to have a star-like smile but are too busy to take out time for it; there is a new version of a popular tooth-whitener on the block that promises to light-up your smile in five minutes flat. Marketed by Procter and Gamble Co., the newest version of Crest Whitestrips claims to give brighter teeth even faster than before.
