Philippine health secretary Francisco Duque III is ordering a thorough testing on all flour-based products imported from China after reports that they contain harmful chemicals.

At the same time, Duque advised the public to refrain from using flour from China and instead buy from local suppliers.

According to the health chief, the Bureau of Food and Drugs were already looking into the reports. It was not clear if the BFAD would order a ban on flour importation from China.

As of this time, the BFAD has yet to issue a sweeping ban on all Chinese luncheon meat carrying the "Ma-Ling" brand after they were found to contain rat meat.

The action by the Philippine government came as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised Americans against defective or contaminated Chinese products such as seafood, toothpaste, some wood toys and tires.
