| The President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) warns a new British health bill misses an opportunity to provide record breaking protection from smoking in public places and the effects of second-hand smoking for the people of England and Wales. Hemant Patel says he was "deeply disappointed" the proposed new measure fell short of a complete ban on smoking. He says, "It is simply not acceptable that the people of England and Wales will not enjoy the same protections as the people of Scotland and Northern Ireland | | Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche confirms reports it suspended shipments of the anti-viral drug Tamiflu to the United States in order to maintain a worldwide supply for the regular flu season. Roche spokesman Alexander Klauser, says, "We have temporarily suspended shipment of Tamiflu there." He stresses the temporary halt will not affect the U.S. government's order for the drug | | Wyeth pharmaceutical company announces Saturday that the jury in the cases of Brigitte DeMonja v. Wyeth and Dorothy Parkin v. Wyeth in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas finds in favor of the Company in the Parkin case. In the DeMonja case, the jury assessed total damages in the amount of $88,000. Wyeth announced that it intends to appeal this verdict. Three other plaintiffs were originally part of this trial group. Those plaintiffs all voluntarily chose to dismiss their cases before trial | | Koronis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announces the initiation of a Phase 1B clinical trial of KP-1461, an anti-viral therapeutic, in HIV-positive patients.
