| U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warnings on the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children and adolescents taking antidepressants appear to be effective, according to a new study. The association's Committee on Obstetric Practice singled out Paxil (also known as paroxetine) saying the drug has been linked to some problems with the baby | | Contrary to previous studies, a new report in the March issue of the Harvard Mental Health Letter finds that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and tricyclic antidepressants are relatively safe for pregnant women. But, an FDA warning last year, that said women who took the SSRI paroxetine (Paxil) during the first trimester had an increased risk of birth defects and might develop transient withdrawal symptoms, has many women reconsidering their options | | The Food and Drug Administration warns that a recent study suggests the antidepressant Paxil may be associated with birth defects.
