Leavitt acknowledges past vaccine shortages, but says he is "quite certain" there will be an ample amount in the upcoming season.
However, he did acknowledge the inability to produce enough vaccine for both the regular flu and a potential pandemic of bird flu.
The government is looking to see how it can "dramatically" improve vaccine production.
Another issue addressed was the nation's inadequate system of medicine delivery in emergency situations. Leavitt says possible solutions include door-to-door delivey, mail, or fire station hand-out deliveries.
The government's goal is to have the medicine delivered within 12 hours of the decision to distribute.
