The Nassau County Health Department said Wednesday a 75-year-old man died from the disease Monday after getting infected on Aug. 5. The victim suffered fever and extreme weakness before dying.
Two other Nassau County deaths are linked to the virus but the state health department is yet to conduct tests on the victims before making confirmation. One of the victims was an 80-year-old woman from New Hyde Park. She fell ill on Aug. 20 and died on Sunday.
The county also confirmed two more cases of West Nile infections. One victim is a 57-year-old woman from Bethpage. She suffered fever, headache and blurred vision on Aug. 15 and was hospitalized the following day. She is recovering at home.
There were two other probable cases, which involved a 49-year-old woman from West Hempstead. She became ill on Aug. 11 with headache, aches and fatigue. The woman was not hospitalized and is recovering at home.
