The Times of London reported that the study shows that children and teens who drink alcohol, even in small doses at dinner time, as is done in some European families, tend to be fonder of drinking as adults, and the idea that allowing kids to drink will make them more responsible drinkers is not the reality. According to the study, it is just more likely to make them drinkers for life.
The study's findings suggest that alcohol in the developing brains of adolescents may cause changes that make the person crave alcohol more than someone who does not drink as a youth.
According to Joseph A. Califano, Jr., Chairman and President of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, " A child who reaches age 21 without smoking, abusing alcohol or using drugs is virtually certain never to do so."
Doctors involved with the study suggest waiting until one is at least 18 to try alcohol to avoid developing a strong desire to consume alcohol on a regular basis.
