Actoplus Met is a single tablet that merges Takeda's two existing diabetes drugs, Actos and Metformin. Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America Inc. will sell the tablet in the United States starting in October.
Actos improves insulin resistance, while Metformin is used to control the level of glucose produced by the liver.
Matsutaka Matsumoto of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. claims that thanks to Actoplus, diabetes patients won't have to take two tablets for the same treatment.
Kiyoshi Kitazawa, general manager of Takeda's pharmaceutical development division says, "We will continue to maximize the added value of Actos and to strengthen our franchise in the area of diabetes treatment in the U.S."
