According to Reuters report, the chip is capable of detecting the dengue virus employing a process called molecular diagnostics.
The detection process through this revolutionary chip will take just 2-3 days. The conventional method of detection takes 6-7 days. Moreover, the traditional process relies on doctor's subjective evaluation and proficiency.
"The chips will cost hospitals half of what conventional testing equipment cost," about $27,190 USD, Reuters quoted Dr. Ting Dor Ngi, general manager of Attogenix, as saying.
The invention assumes greater significant due to the fact that Singapore is often hit hard by dengue fever between July and September. The Southeast Asian island reported 9,459 dengue infections in 2004, reports Reuters.
The firm has also claimed that the chip can detect other diseases like sexually transmitted diseases, SARS and bird flue.
