The office of Minority Health launches the fourth annual, "Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day." Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health Garth Graham, MD, MPH, will also announce the kick off of this year's campaign to reduce health disparities affecting racial and ethnic minorities.

Joining the Department of Health and Human Services, to lead the effort for the fourth year is Tom Joyner, nationally syndicated radio personality and host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

The initiative is part of "Closing the Health Gap," an ongoing partnership that combines HHS' medical expertise with the broadcast resources of the ABC Radio Networks.

Dr. Graham says, "Because of Checkup Day, thousands of Americans are showing their family, friends and colleagues how much they care by taking someone they love for a health checkup. Preventable diseases take a terrible toll on our nation, especially in minority communities. Checkup Day is helping to bring people to health care early, when diseases can be prevented or treated successfully."
