| In a bid to help consumers figure out whether they have bought potentially contaminated food, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will publish the retailers' names on the Agriculture Department Web site. The new rule that was announced Friday is expected to be published next week and will take effect 30 days later. A list of retail stores will be published within three to 10 business days of issuing the recall release, the USDA said | | More than 4,000 people in Denmark may be infected with salmonella in what may become the worst outbreak there in 15 years, health officials said Wednesday. Urgent checks are being conducted to find the source of a salmonella outbreak that officials say may be caused by a food product distributed only in Denmark but no single source has yet been named | | The largest U.S. grocery chain, Kroger Co., is voluntarily recalling all ground beef products sold in Michigan and certain Ohio stores between May 21 and June 8 after the meat was linked to an outbreak of illness from E. coli bacteria. Testing has confirmed beef samples contain a strain of the bacteria that has sickened at least 19 people in Ohio. Another 15 have been sickened in Michigan | | The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed Monday it found a cow infected with the deadly mad cow disease in the western province of British Columbia. The agency immediately started a search for the farm where the infected cow came from even though no meat from the infected animal entered the food chain. It was the 13th case of mad cow disease reported in Canada and the third case in British Columbia in the last three years | | A Mediterranean diet which consists of fruits, vegetables, fibre and healthier fats could help protect against Type 2 diabetes, a new study suggests. The diet has already been proved famously beneficial for the cardiovascular system. Researchers at the University of Navarra in northern Spain studied the eating habits of more than 14,000 Spanish volunteers over four years to see who developed the condition. Their health and dietary habits were then tracked in detail over the following months and years | |
