The Canwest News Service reported Sunday that the latest fatality was in Ontario. Details of the death and identity of the victim were not released.
The deaths were nine in Ontario, one in British Columbia and one in Alberta. The Listeria monocytogenes bacterium was the cause of the deaths.
Six other deaths are being investigated for the outbreak. Currently, there are 33 confirmed cases and 25 suspected cases of listeriosis.
Maple Leaf Foods started a recall of its meat products on August 17 after listeria was discovered in its Toronto plant. More than 200 products have been recalled including that of other brands since the recall.
"Listeriosis poses a very low risk to the general population since healthy people rarely become ill when exposed to the bacteria. Those most at risk include pregnant women, the very old, the very young and those with weakened immune systems," said Dr. David Williams, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, according to CNS.
