The Hong Kong Center for Food Safety (HKCFS) has warned consumers against drinking a batch of French red wine made in 2006 because these may contain glass fragments.

The HKCFS also appealed to local liquor vendors to stop selling J.P. Chenet Cabernet/Syrah du Pays d'Oc red wine carrying lot number L70927203 and EAN (European Article Number) bar code number 3263286324216.

The warning and appeal followed similar moves by Swiss authorities and reports recalling the French red wine sold in quarter-liter bottles.

The Drinks International website reported on Wednesday that the Swiss supermarket chain Swiss Coop recalled 3,719 bottles of J.P. Chenet sold since Wednesday and offered buyers refunds.

According to Swiss Coop, a machine fault during the bottling process may have tainted the wine with tiny pieces of glass.

There was no report of comments from J.P. Chenet owner, Grands Chais de France.
