For the first time students at HCC are offered the opportunity to do their EMT with the hands-on clinical training right at their doorstep.
The Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic degree is offered exclusively on the HCC campus itself.
Jennifer Boulanger, dean of Academic Affairs at HCCC told empirestatenews.net, "In addition to the convenience of this program for students, it lends itself well to potential job opportunities in the immediate area for students who want to remain in the Mohawk Valley because potential employers will see their skills first-hand through their hands-on clinical work."
"Our students have told us that EMT work is personally fulfilling and immediately rewarding. Because of the expanding role of health care in our society, paramedics are in great demand."
Before the 2006-2007 academic year, students did their coursework off-site. Often, the off-campus facilities' providing the EMT program was inconvenient for students to get to.
However, the new arrangement provides classes on the HCC campus along with clinical and practical experience offered at nearby medical facilities or hospitals.
