Study Says: West Nile Virus Patients Have Ongoing Health Problems

A recent study published in the latest issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases published Wednesday suggests that if a person is infected by the West Nile Virus he continues to have ongoing health problems like fatigue, memory loss, headaches, depression and tremors.

The person gets infected by the West Nile virus when he is bitten by a mosquito that has previously bitten an infected bird. The study also reports that the intensity of infection does not determine the after effects of the disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Future Food Ltd of Dallas, Texas, are recalling 7-oz and 12-oz packages of Krab Supreme Dip and Supreme Krab Dip, sold under the brand names of Salads of the Sea, Hen House and Fisherman's Market, because because of a possible Listeria Monocytogenes contamination.

According to the FDA, the Krab Dip Supreme and Supreme Krab Dip were distributed in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas in the retail stores of Winn-Dixie, Harris Teeter, Kash n Karry, Ball's and Hen House

Avoiding Overused Pain Medications May Help In Transformed Migraine

A study by researchers at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul suggests that abrupt discontinuation of overused pain medications used by patients with transformed migraines, also known as chronic daily headache, may help in easing the severe pain. Researchers found that following an exercise regimen and taking preventive medications may revert back the chronic pain to normal migraine.

Dr. Chin-Sang Chung and colleagues followed 136 patients diagnosed with transformed migraines for a year. At the start of the study, each patient had been experiencing more than 15 headaches per month for over 6 months

Recall After Children Could Harm Themselves With Vapor Pads

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Mentholatum Company announced a voluntary recall of WellPatch Cough and Cold Soothing Vapor Pads due to "potential serious adverse health effects that could result if the product is ingested by a child removing the patch and chewing on it."
