At age 45, when Mandy Davidson began to suffer from hot flashes, she assumed that it was because of her age and a possible menopause, and not because she was pregnant. Davidson, with two older children in their twenties, was stunned to find out one day during her lunch break that her striking back pain was actually a sign that she was in labor. Five hours later, the new mother gave birth to a healthy 8lb 1oz baby boy, Alfie.

Moreover, the news was more of a shock for her husband Kevin, than for her. Fresh from celebrating their 27th anniversary together, he was stunned to find out that he had just become a father for the third time.

"I nearly fell to the floor when I found out," said the 48-year-old from Norfolk, according to the Daily Mail. "It was even more of a shock when the hospital midwives told us at first that it was twins."

Even though Davidson did suffer from the regular symptoms associated with pregnancy, including the hot flashes, back pain, a bloating sensation and some weight gain, she dismissed them all, sensing that it was just her age creeping up on her.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Davidson says: "It was at lunchtime and I told my, manager, 'I think I have got something to tell you. I think I could be pregnant and I could be in labor now'."

"We went straight to the hospital and Alfie was born at 6.25pm. They think that I was 40 weeks and that he was lying across me with his head down."

The couple are now coming to terms with the surprise of their life.

"I am totally delighted," the proud mother said said. "He's really, really placid - really, good."
