Global Health Workforce Alliance Forum Sets Plan To Solve Health Workers Crisis

About 1,500 delegates from 57 countries attending the World Health Organization's Global Health Workforce Alliance meeting in Kampala, Uganda agreed Thursday to a plan of action to solve the alarming worldwide shortage of health workers.

The agreement contained in the Kampala Declaration and Agenda for Global Action sets out a series of steps to be taken by the 57 countries over the next 10 years. The steps the countries should take include training and recruiting sufficient health personnel and providing adequate incentives and better working conditions to ensure the retention of health workers

U.N. Appeals To Protect Mothers, Children From HIV/AIDS

Global Malaria Map Shows Less At Risk Than Previously Thought

More than 2.3 billion people, or about 35 percent of the world's population, are at risk for contracting a deadly form of malaria, according to a study released by the Public Library of Science (PLoS) medical journal.

Malaria is a parasitic disease that occurs in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. About 500 million cases of malaria occur every year, and one million people, mostly children living in sub-Saharan Africa, die as a result. The parasite mainly responsible for these deaths-Plasmodium falciparum, is transmitted to people through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes
