The donation was made to the Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute, which used the money to fund its new Office for Prevention of Prematurity and Stillbirth.
The newly founded institute plans to collaborate with researchers and collect information from existing medical literature, registries, and vital statistic databases, with the intention of finding a way to battle the birth problems.
The results of the research are slated to be presented at an international summit scheduled for May 2009, and will be followed by its publication in September of the same year.
A total of 3 million births produce stillborn infants, continued the statement.
