Samples of dead poultry from villages in Mohanpur under West Tripura district sent to the High Security Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Bhopal last week tested positive, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported quoting sources.
"The state administration has decided to cull 10,000 birds in eight gram panchayat (local administration) areas which fall within five kilometers (three miles) radius of the affected villages," official sources told the PTI on Tuesday.
Tripura, which shares an 856-kilometer (513 miles) international border with neighboring Bangladesh, completed culling of 40,000 birds following an outbreak of bird flu on April 6 in the border villages of Kamalpur under Dhalai district.
