Indonesia confirms the death of a fourth person in the country due to bird flu. China reports hundreds of farm geese are dead.

The deadly H5N1 virus first surfaced in Asia but appears to be spreading quickly to the West. Russia confirmed more bird flu cases in poultry on Monday. The continued reports raise fears the disease could spread across Europe by migratory birds.

The European Union is set to ban all imports of captive wild birds after a parrot died of the H5N1 strain in Britain.

More dead birds are being tested in Germany, Croatia, Hungary and Portugal, as suspect cases multiply.

China reported another outbreak of bird flu on Tuesday but said it had been brought under control with no reported human infections.

Some experts believe the first human-to-human mutation of H5N1 is likely to occur in Asia.
