Karachi, Pakistan (AHN) -
So far, an estimated 60 rounds of anti-polio campaigns have been conducted across Sindh with the help of international funding from the World Health Organization and UNICEF among others, the Daily Times reported.
One-and-a-half year old Naik Mohammad was brought to the hospital on May 18 by his Pathan family who lives in Macchar. He was suffering from acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). His parents told doctors that he had not been vaccinated and when his condition deteriorated they rushed him to hospital. Another three patients - one-and-a-half-year-old Abdul and three-year-old Aisha brought on March 3 and Matiullah on May 5 - are also suffering from AFP. Their parents were of the opinion that the children fell ill due to the irregular immunization.
Sindh Extended Program for Immunization (EPI) Director Dr. Bashir Sheikh said he had no information of the new cases. According to him, the last new polio case was reported on April 28, 2006 from Gulshan-e-Iqbal for a child named Anarwati from the Bheel community who he claimed he fell victim to the crippling disease in Kotri.
