In addition to treating epilepsy, the anti-seizure medications are also used for a variety of other illnesses, including migraines, certain nerve-pain disorders, and psychiatric diseases such as bipolar disorder that themselves carry a risk of suicide | | A "blackbox," the strictest form of warning, is being added to Johnson and Johnson's foot ulcer cream after studies found it increased risk of cancer deaths, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Friday. The prescription jell is called Regranex or becaplermin gel, and is used to treat refractory leg and foot ulcers in diabetic patients | | Silver dental fillings containing mercury may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said on its Web site. The new warning for pregnant women was issued as a part of the settlement with several consumer advocacy groups. The federal agency plans to issue a more specific rule for fillings that contain mercury by July 2009 | | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers in New Mexico and Texas not to eat certain types of raw red tomatoes as it could be linked to the recent salmonella outbreak in the area. Health officials in New Mexico began testing a variety of tomatoes after it received 57 reported cases of salmonellosis caused by Salmonella Saintpaul in New Mexico and Texas from April 23 through June 1.
