The FDA issued the alert on Saturday for melons from Agropecuaria Montelibano. Cantaloupes from the manufacturer were not allowed to enter the U.S.
Retailers, produce processors and food service operators were advised to throw out any cantaloupes from this company. Consumers should check if the cantaloupes they have purchased recently came from Honduras.
The cantaloupes have sickened 50 people in 16 states, and nine people in Canada. The FDA says no death have been reported, but 14 people have been hospitalized.
The 16 states in the U.S. that have salmonella outbreak includes Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Georgia, New York, Washington, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee and Utah.
The outbreak is still investigated by Centers for Disease Control and Food and Drug Administration.
