The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked an energy drink manufacturer to change the name of its product "Blow," to something other than the street name for the illegal drug cocaine. The FDA said the energy drink maker could face sanctions if it does not incorporate changes to its marketing and product contents.

The FDA says "Blow" has used marketing gimmicks indicating it is a better substitute to cocaine, reportedly a violation of several federal drug laws. The FDA said in a letter to the company that "Blow itself is an unapproved drug," and has not properly given a license to make it viable for sale to the public.

The energy drink is being as grainy white powder sold in vials.

The energy drink founder Logan Gola said in an interview on the cable network CN8 that his company just wanted to set itself apart with something "edgy, hip and cool."

Gola cited that he is a parent and has been discouraging children under 18 from taking caffeine-laced drinks to teens under the age of 18.
