The U.S. Food and Drugs Administration issued warning Thursday to parents against giving their babies over-the-counter cold and cough medicines, saying that these drugs may be not good for their little kids.

The drug companies stopped selling cold medicines intended for babies and toddlers since last October.

In the same month, FDA officials voted that the OTC drugs will not work and should not be used to children under six years old.

FDA officials warn parents and guardians alike to take extra precautions in giving their youngsters cold and cough medicines, saying that "serious and potentially life-threatening side effects can occur."
