A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel has given their approval to a new insulin delivery system for diabetics, where the insulin would be inhaled rather than injected with needles.

According to Consumer Affairs, the panel voted 7-2 to approve the system, called Exubera, for treatment of both juvenile and adult-onset diabetes. The FDA is expected to follow the recommendation.

The new delivery system has been a joint project of Pfizer, Nektar Therapeutics, and Sanofi-Aventis.
