The move brings the company closer to returning the implants to the market years after they were banned.
The approval for Inamed's gel-filled implants is made under certain conditions, that have not been made public.
In July, an advisory panel gave conditional approval to another implant maker. At the same time, the panel turned down Inamed's application, citing safety concerns. According to The FDA, Inamed has since given information addressing those issues.
Since being banned 13 years ago, silicone breast implants have been cleared of most serious health concerns. Aside from breakage risks, they can cause infection and painful scar tissue.
