A former Broward County doctor who injected four people with fake Botox is slated for sentencing today in Fort Lauderdale federal court. Bach McComb, who did not have a medical license at the time, is charged with paralyzing himself and three friends with fake anti-wrinkle shots.

In court earlier this month, still partially paralyzed and using a walker, McComb plead guilty to providing unapproved drugs and faces up to three years in federal prison.

In November 2004, Bach and three others were hospitalized with botulism poisoning after Bach injected himself, then-girlfriend Alma Hall and Palm Beach Gardens couple Eric and Bonnie Kaplan with botulinum toxin type A, an unlicensed version of the active ingredient in Botox, the popular wrinkle treatment.

Prosecutors seeking the toughest sentence, 3 years in prison, are stretching out the sentencing process by calling in 10 witnesses.

They also describe McComb as a criminal predator who habitually risked the health of patients for his own wealth.

McComb's attorneys, however, are asking judge James Cohn for a minimal sentence, less than six months in prison. They believe McComb is a victim because he injected himself with the same poison he gave to others; something he would not have done if he believed it would be harmful.
