FDA Approves First Ever Skin Patch To Treat Alzheimer's Disease

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reportedly approved the first skin patch for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Manufactured by Swiss drug maker Novartis AG, the Exelon skin patch is the first world-wide approval for the patch.

The Exelon delivers the medicine for mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease patients through a skin patch instead of an oral capsule. This provides a great help to the patients who find it difficult to remember the exact dosage and timings of the medicine

Skin Patch To Treat Alzheimer To Be Available Soon

Researchers in Karolinska Institute in Sweden have developed a skin patch to treat Alzheimer's disease which they claim will make treatment easier and life a little better for patients.

Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp., manufacturer of the patch said it infuses the drug Exelon through the patients' skin. The company is currently seeking approval from the US Food and Drug Administration so the patch will be available in the counters before the year ends
