American Kids More Likely To Be Prescribed Anti-Depressants, Stimulants Than European Kids

A new study finds that children in the United States are about three times more likely to be prescribed anti-depressant and stimulant medication than their West European counterparts.

Antidepressant and stimulant prevalence were three or more times greater in the U.S. than in the Netherlands and Germany, while antipsychotic prevalence was 1.5 to 2.2 times greatera, said lead researcher Julie Zito, associate professor in pharmacy and psychiatry from the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. FDA Approves Patch To Relieve Chemo-Induced Nausea

Sancuso, a five-day patch that fights nausea from cancer chemotherapy, has won a federal approval in the United States. The patch is worn on the arm and delivers a widely used anti-nausea medicine, known as granisetron, through the skin, Galashiels, UK-based pharmaceutical company ProStrakan said.

Nausea is a common side effect of chemotherapy that many patients face. Some patients have to prematurely stop their cancer treatment because of severe nausea and vomiting.
