Ground Beef, Burger Patties Recalled Over E. Coli Contamination In Canada

A still undetermined amount of ground beef products has been recalled by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency from meatshops and stores across Canada due to possible E. Coli contamination.

The food safety board issued the alert on May 2nd , warning the public not to consume frozen hamburger patties as well as fresh ground beef products delivered in several Toronto stores between march 13 and 21 this year

February 17 Beef Recall Biggest In U.S. Agricultural History

The beef recall is turning out to be the largest ever in the history of U.S. agriculture, with the total amount of recalled meat topping 143 million pounds. Although there is no official estimate of the total value of destroyed beef, an official of the Grocery Manufacturers of America confirmed it runs into hundred of millions of dollars.

The items taken from shelves goes beyond meat. It includes beef-based soups, sauces, burritos and cubes. Craig Henry, senior vice president of the GMA, said it will take the association several weeks to estimate the volume of recalled beef products

U.S. Orders Massive Beef Recall

A meat plant in California violating rules on cattle inspection has caused the largest beef recall in U.S. History. The Department of Agriculture has ordered the recall of some 64.9 million kilograms of beef.

However, the USDA said the recall has minimal health risks as the meat as the move was a Class 2 recall, meaning the USDA was not expecting the meat could cause harm if consumed. Most of the beef were purchased mostly for school lunch and other nutrition programs
