| The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continue to warn consumers not to eat any fresh spinach due to the number of rising outbreaks (now totaling 146 cases, up from the last reported total of 131). The reported cases have also spread to include two more states: Arizona and Colorado. This brings the total of states affected from 21 to a current total of 23 states reporting infections from the E. Coli-tainted spinach. Wisconsin still has the highest number of reported cases (40 in total) | | As health officials across the country are seeking answers to the E. Coli-tainted spinach outbreak, most people are not aware that in August the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a virus mix to kill bacteria in a spray form for prepackaged meats. The bacteria, listeria can contaminate processed meats after they are packaged. The FDA-approved spray is a mix of viruses to kill the bacteria. Coli-tainted spinach. The national alert has grocery stores pulling fresh spinach from their shelves. Natural Selection Foods LLC recalled several brands of their spinach (both naturally grown and organic now). The prepackaged spinach and all salads that include the spinach by Natural Selection Foods that are distributed to all locations in the United States (U.S.), Canada and Mexico have been stopped as a precaution.
