Animal Rabies Cases In Virginia At 25-Year High

The Virginia Department of Health said Monday that last year's report of 730 confirmed cases of rabies in animals were the highest since 1982 when the rabies reached 745 cases.

Most of the reported cases were in wild animals, the highest being the raccoons with 359 cases, skunks were second with 185 and foxes with 90. Also included were 36 cases of rabies in cats and five in dogs

Leptospira Kills 10 In Nicaragua; 2,700 Others Infected

The Health Ministry of Nicaragua on Thursday raised alarm over the outbreak of leptospirosis, a deadly illness prevailing in tropical countries and can be transmitted to human beings by a bacteria present in rat urine.

According to Health Minister Maritza Cuan, 10 people were already killed and 2,700 more cases were reported in some regions of this Central American country

Study: Dogs That Bite Usually Have A Behavior Or Medical Problem

Consumers should be alert to certain products that have been recalled by the manufacturers. The FDA has conducted tests of the Castleberry manufacturing plant in August, Ga.
